1933 Born at The Haque, The Netherlands.

1950 -1954 Schooled at The Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam.

1955 -1956 Met Marie José Nicolaí, whom he later married. They settled in the Dordrecht.


1959 Made his first large-scale work, a seventy-metre-long mosaic wall in Leeuwarden.

1960 -1964 Lecturer in ‘free painting’ at the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven.

1964 -1967 Lecturer in ’graphic techniques’ at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam.

1967 -1972 Departmental lecturer in ‘applied art’ at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam.

1979 -1981 Consultant on ‘Fine Arts’ to the government architect, Ministery for Housing, Regional Development and the Environment.

1983 -1990 Lecturer in ‘free painting’ in the department of ‘monumental art’ at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.
